Origami Paper

We use standard size 6 inch x 6 inch (15cm x 15cm) square origami paper for this site unless stated otherwise. If you can, use different types of origami paper to change the look of the finished origami and have fun with it!

16 Point Origami Modular Star

This is an easy origami modular star. It is not difficult, only time consuming since you will have to fold the same unit 16 times before you can start assembling the modular star.

Origami Modular Star Step 1: Start with a 6 inch x 6 inch (15cm x 15cm) origami paper, color side down. Fold in half, crease well and unfold.

Origami Modular Star Step 2: Fold the 4 corners in to meet at the center.

Origami Modular Star Step 3: Now fold the bottom half to meet the center crease.

Origami Modular Star Step 4: For the top half to meet the center crease.

Origami Modular Star Step 5: Now make a mountain fold at the dotted line shown below. Crease well.

Origami Modular Star Step 6: Make a valley fold, or simply folding the bottom half to meet the top half.

And that's it! That one unit. You now need to go and make 15 more of those!

OK, here are our 16 soldiers lined up and ready to form an origami modular star! We've used 4 different color paper, folding 4 units of each color.

So how do we join these units together without using any glue??? Well, every unit has "pockets" and "tips". The "tips" fit into the pockets and all the units are attached to each other this way.

Origami Modular Star Step 7: Starting with 2 units, fit one tip into the pocket as shown in the photo below.

Origami Modular Star Step 8: We're going to repeat what we just did in Step 7. Take another unit and fit the tip into the pocket.

Origami Modular Star Step 9: And we just keep repeating this step until we use up all our units.

Origami Modular Star Step 10: Keep attaching the units until you've used up all 16 units. Attached the 16th unit to the 1st one the same way, by inserting a tip into the pocket.

and that's it! Your 16 Point Origami Modular Star is complete!
